First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Villa Casa Dodo Mare, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect — the name had me curious, but the location on Elia Beach was promising. This four-star property sits right where you want to be on Mykonos, and I mean right on one of the island’s best beaches. The villa has this relaxed, almost residential feel that’s refreshing after seeing so many cookie-cutter resort complexes. You know what struck me most? The fact that there’s actually parking here — and it’s free, which on Mykonos is basically like finding gold.
The Perfect Spot
Elia Beach is honestly one of those places that locals will tell you about if they like you. It’s got this long stretch of golden sand that doesn’t get completely overrun like some of the more famous beaches, but it’s still lively enough to feel like you’re part of the scene. The villa’s position means you’re literally steps from the water — I could hear the waves from my room, which was actually soothing rather than disruptive. What’s clever about this location is that you get the beach life during the day, but you’re not stuck in the middle of the party zone at night.
The Accommodation
The rooms here have character, which I appreciated. Mine had this clean, Mediterranean vibe with white walls and pops of blue that felt authentic rather than trying too hard. The space was generous — not cramped like some places on the island where you’re paying premium prices for a closet. I particularly liked the way they’ve designed the windows to frame views of either the sea or the surrounding hills. The bathroom was modern and well-maintained, though nothing overly fancy — it’s the kind of place where the focus is clearly on the experience rather than flashy amenities.
Activities and Atmosphere
Here’s where Villa Casa Dodo Mare really shines — the activities are actually worth doing. The windsurfing right off Elia Beach is fantastic, especially in the afternoons when the wind picks up. I tried the snorkeling too, and the water clarity around here is impressive. For hiking enthusiasts, there are some great trails that wind up into the hills behind the beach — the views back down to the coast are spectacular, particularly around sunset. The whole vibe is relaxed but active, if that makes sense. It attracts people who want to do things, not just lie around (though you can certainly do that too).
Why Guests Love It
I can see why couples rate this place so highly — there’s something romantic about the setting without it being overly precious about it. The combination of beachfront access, decent amenities, and that free parking (seriously, this matters more than you think on Mykonos) creates real value. The staff seems to understand that people come here to experience the island, not to be pampered every second. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere special, but you’re not paying resort prices for services you don’t need. Plus, Elia Beach itself has some excellent tavernas within walking distance, so you’re not trapped into expensive hotel dining.
